Lindsay Colwell, Veterinarian and Practice Principal
With more than 23 years as a veterinarian, Lindsay brings deep experience and a genuine love for horses to her role as Principal Vet of Prebbleton Veterinary Hospital. She works primarily in equine performance medicine and lameness, caring for everything from high-level racehorses and competitive sport horses to the much-loved backyard pony.
How it all began
Horses have always been at the centre of her life. She grew up riding and competing to the upper levels in eventing, and her interest in medicine made veterinary work a natural fit. The combination of science, problem-solving, and the connection with horses set her on a career path she’s never looked back on.
What drives her
No two days are the same, and that’s exactly what she loves. The variety, the challenge, and the constant learning keep her energised. Helping a horse return to comfort or achieve its best is the part of the job she finds most rewarding. Even on tough days, her passion stays anchored in one simple truth: everything she does is for the love of the horses.
Skills and interests
Her special interest lies in equine lameness and performance medicine, areas where experience, intuition, and careful assessment make all the difference. She particularly enjoys complex lameness cases and performance challenges—anything that requires digging deeper, thinking critically, and tailoring plans to bring out the best in each horse.
Ongoing learning is a big part of her work, and she stays current through continuing education, seminars, and collaboration with colleagues across the industry.
The team around her
What she values most at PVH is the people. She describes the team as supportive, skilled, and genuinely passionate about the animals and clients they care for. That sense of shared purpose—and the positive culture the team has built together—is one of the key things that sets PVH apart.
Life outside the clinic
When she’s not working, you’ll usually find her riding or competing her horse Rocco, whom she has owned for more than five years and competes in eventing, with a bit of show jumping and dressage on the side.
She also loves spending time with her family and her small menagerie: Po, her little dog who often accompanies her on calls, plus two cats—Chase, adopted from Cat Rescue, and Ryder, the resident barn cat who keeps a close eye on the property.
